Three Predictions for Resellers in 2027
1. Interest in Generic Vintage Clothing will Decline
Vintage clothing will likely remain popular in 2027, but not all vintage items will attract the same level of attention. Generic pieces without a recognizable brand, distinctive design, or strong historical appeal may become harder to sell. In recent years, the word “vintage” has often been used broadly to describe almost any older garment, often with an unreasonably high price tag attached. As buyers begin to recognize an item isn't necessarily better simply because it's old, prices and interest will drop accordingly. A plain 1990s sweatshirt or mass-produced floral dress may no longer be enough to command a premium simply because of its age.
2. Vinted will See a Big Rise in Popularity
Vinted saw a huge boom this year thanks to a large marketing push, and is likely to continue expanding its influence in the resale market through the next year. Its focus on simple listings, low barriers to entry, and convenient shipping has already made it attractive to casual sellers. Increased advertising and brand awareness could bring even more buyers and sellers to the platform by 2027. A larger user base could make Vinted one of the first places people think of when clearing out their wardrobes or adding to their current ones. This would be especially significant for resellers, giving them another good option aside from eBay, Poshmark, and Depop.
3. Natural Fibers Will Go Up in Demand
Natural fibers may become an increasingly important selling point in 2027. As shoppers become more aware of garment composition, durability, comfort, and environmental concerns, materials such as cotton, linen, wool, hemp, and silk could receive more attention in resale listings. This does not necessarily mean that every synthetic garment will lose value. Polyester, nylon, acrylic, and other man-made fibers remain useful in sportswear, outerwear, knitwear, and technical clothing. However, buyers may become more selective about when and why they purchase synthetic materials.
